Apr 12, 2012:Recognizing the Microeconomics of Counterfeit Electronic Mitigation Efforts

Recognizing the Microeconomics of Counterfeit Electronic Mitigation Efforts

As companies continue to combat the danger of counterfeit electronics in the supply chain, the cost of those efforts is having a very real impact on market prices as a whole. The implementation of standards such as AS5553, AS6081, and IDEA-1010B can often have dramatic affects on the costs of goods sold that get passed along to the customer. This reasonable economic response raises the question of the validity of price competition between suppliers without realistic consideration of value added services.

In this presentation, you will explore the real world costs facing an electronics distributor as they make the transition from broker to counterfeit mitigation partner. You will also discuss the costs associated when ineffectually screened parts make it to the final assembly and require rework and replacement. This information is intended to help guide management and purchasing departments in selecting sourcing criteria to manage and control costs without compromising on quality.
